The magic is explained as well as magic can be without losing the intrigue. I love the way that the ending of the stories all came together. It was brought alive in the story, so will make it something that will be remembered. I learned some history that I didn't know before. The history that was covered was both fun and informative. The Adventure was exciting, and had several elements of danger, beauty, understanding and growth of maturity. It was So GOOD! Ms Schoonmaker was able to pull the stories of all the people together beautifully. I was so excited, as I had finished the first two books and was anxious to read the final book in the Trio. I received a wonderful privilege from this Author in that I was able to read an Advance Review Copy of The Last Crystal. He held my hand and said, 'I will hire you with my power.' But his power counted for nought, and he went away in his chariot. Sword in hand, the King came in his chariot. But I suspect it will be the magic of maps, mysterious lands, and lost crystals that will have the kids reading well after “lights-out.” If you’re looking for books for the younger readers in your life, add this to your list. The Last Bargain By Rabindranath Tagore 'Come and hire me,' I cried, while in the morning I was walking on the stone-paved road. I particularly loved the relationship between the siblings who find the strength to stick to their values and build their personal bonds in the face of temptations and fear. Deftly woven into her plot, which is filled with action and adventure, are both lively history lessons of life in the early ‘40s and challenges to consider current-day issues, particularly related to the care of our planet. Schoonmaker is a retired teacher, and I suspect she herself was magical in the classroom. As the children make their way from Kansas City to Los Angeles on the famous train, the Santa Fe Chief, they cross paths with a Nazi spy, meet a myriad of fascinating travelers, and are subsequently thrust into a magical world to find the Last Crystal. Set in 1944, the four Harrison siblings must spend the summer with their Uncle James after their father has been injured on the battle fields of World War II. I have not read the first two books in the series, but thoroughly enjoyed the book on its own. The Last Crystal is the third book in Schoonmaker’s Last Crystal trilogy. ![]()
